Environmental Policy & Law (Chapter 9 Edition 3: Trade and the Environment) For students with Edition 4 of the text read this article by James Salzman "Informing the Green Consumer"; The Environmental Case (See This Link to Chapter 12: Trade Versus the Environment)

Homework:

Read the assigned text chapters first. Be prepared to be examined on any or all of the environmental terms or concepts found in the texts. For your homework for this class session, answer the following questions. In preparing for this assignment, you should review the link provided for this course to help you analyze case law.

  1. Answer the discussion questions for chapter 9 or summarize the thesis of Salzman in his "Informing the Green Consumer" article. Then answer the discussion questions for Chapter 12 of The Environmental Case.
  2. In 200 words describe the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Monsanto v Geertson Seed Farms
  3. In 200 words describe the U.S. Supreme Court decision in J.E.M. Agriculture Supply v Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc.
  4. In 1990 one of the greatest environmental disasters of the century occured with the shipwreck of the Exxon Valdez and the resulting oil pollution in Alaskan waters. Congress passed the Oil Protection Act of 1990. Explain how this changed the transport of oil on ocean-going vessels.
